I first immigrated to the quiet suburbs of Dallas when I was six. By then, I knew the life of a lower-class Mexican child - to run free through flooded neighborhoods, and the joy of riding on the back of my mother’s motorcycle. As a young adult, I took road trips through Latin America and began to discover my voice, a product of those who’ve left everything behind.

My work walks the realities of when we arrive; the beauty of new lands and possibility, contrasting the pain we carry. My vision has been compounded by the strength and sacrifice inherent in immigration. It is the foundation of my work and the heart of my identity.

I’m inspired by the books Rain of Gold by Victor Villaseñor, The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, and by the lives of Malcom X and Opal Lee.
